Epic himalayan Adventure: Manali to Srinagar Road Trip

It is one of the most fascinating routes that passes through the Great Indian Himalayas with challenging roads from Manali to Srinagar.The road trip spans approximately 473 kilometers (294 miles) through the northern Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. This route is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, passing through high-altitude mountain passes, lush valleys, and picturesque towns. Here’s a basic itinerary and some key points to consider:


Route and Itinerary:


1. Manali to Keylong:

   - Begin your trekking from Manali over Rohtang Pass, the excellent road trip through the Galu Temple and Rani Nallah.

   - Take a break if possible at this Keylong or else make arrangements to stay here for a night.

2. Keylong to Sarchu:

   - Go further to Sarchu’ crossing Baralacha La, a high altitude pass on the way.

   - Sarchu is a well-known camping point and location to begin the trip for those traveling from Leh into Himachal Pradesh also.

3. Sarchu to Leh:   - From here, it is possible to go to Leh, which is the main city and the capital of Ladakh.

   - This stretch speaks for itself with such attraction features as More Plains and Tanglang La which is one of the highest motorable roads.

4. Leh to Kargil:

   - After that leave Leh and take the circuitous journey via Fotu La and Namika La passes heading towards Kargil.

   - The place is historically very important and the phenomenal  beauty of the place is another advantage of being a tourist destination in Kargil.

5. Kargil to Srinagar:

   - Kargil as the last place of the event: Finally, proceed from Kargil.

6. Rohtang Pass:

    -A memorable landmark is the Rohtang Pass, a high altitude parkway that is found at 3,978 meters or 13,051 feet AMSL. Here the terrain changes to rocky with snow patches even during summer seasons Although the main photographic gear used here is shown above, it is always recommended, especially when hiking, to take at least two kinds of cameras to ensure a better moment and view capture. There is an incredible view of other mountains and glaciers around it



Safety measures and Precautions:-

1. Weather Conditions:- Be prepared for varying weather conditions, especially in higher altitudes. Check weather forecasts before starting your journey and carry appropriate clothing

2. Permits:- Ensure you have any necessary permits, such as for crossing Rohtang Pass, as per local regulations. These permits are required for non-local vehicles.

3. Road Conditions:- The road from Manali to Srinagar can be challenging, especially around Rohtang Pass and Zoji La Pass. Some stretches may be narrow, winding, or under maintenance. Drive cautiously and be prepared for unexpected delays.

4. Altitude Sickness:- Parts of the route are at high altitudes. Take breaks, stay hydrated, and avoid overexertion to prevent altitude sickness.

5. Fuel and Supplies:- Plan your fuel stops and carry adequate supplies of water and snacks, as amenities may be limited in remote areas.

6.Vehicle Readiness:- Ensure your vehicle is in good condition before setting out. Carry a spare tire, basic toolkit, and emergency supplies.

Takeoff  Manali:

At Manali you start your trip with winding roads that lead you to even higher places while giving you vistas like no other. The road starts ascending gradually and there are typical Himachal Panchayati Villages which are primarily immersed in native art. With an increase in altitude the temperatures are lower , there is scarcity of oxygen and vegetation shifts from the forest type to the meadow type.
