Nearest Railway Station:The nearest railway station to Kashmir is Jammu Tawi. If starting the trip from Jammu Tawi then one can either take a taxi or take a bus to Srinagar. Amritsar is 550 kilometers away from Jammu and it takes anywhere between 5 to 7 hours to reach there by road Whereas the distance between Jammu and Srinagar is 270 kilometers if traveled by road it takes around 7-8 hours.

By Road:

By Bus : One can either drive in or hire a bus to Srinagar. Distance is roughly 840 km and the driving time may range between 18-20 hours depending on the mode of driving – fast or slow. There are many bus services from Delhi, Chandigarh and Jammu to Srinagar including government as well as private buses

Taxis and Car Rentals:

However, if you prefer a more comfortable means of transport, you can always get a taxi or even hire a car.

Day wise Travel Plan for Budget-friendly Kashmir Trip

Day 1: Mughal – arrival in Srinagar

Stay: One will have to compromise by choosing an inexpensive hotel or hiring a houseboat. 

Activities:  Boating by Shikara on Dal Lake, sight-seeing of Mughal Garden (Shalimar Garden), Nishat Garden, and Hazrat Bal Shrine.

Day 2: Srinagar to Gulmarg trip

Day 4: Pahalgam to sonmarg

Activities: Trek to Thajiwas Glacier, beauty queen.

Meals: Local eateries.

Day 5: The developed trail starts from sonamarg and ends at srinagar.

Transport: Public or shuttle car or bus.

Stay: When it comes to accommodation preference it would be a budget inn or houseboat.

Activities: Shopping in the streets, going to Jamia Masjid, Shankaracharya Temple.

Meals: Local restaurants.

Gulmarg: Notably for its skiing sites and the Ges ski lift or the Gulmarg Gondola for striking views of snowy hills.

Pahalgam:  A peaceful place always appreciated for its large green pastures, beautiful natural environment and fame as the place from where the yatra to Amarnath cave begins. 

Sonamarg: Situated photogenically at the foot of some of the highest ranges of the Himalaya which is often referred to as the “Meadow of Gold, Sonamarg is also a popular destination for trekkers.

Srinagar :- Kashmir, specially, Srinagar is famous for shikars over dal lake and it is a very silent place. Dal Lake is famous for its shallow waters and is enclosed by the snow capped mountains, and besides, houseboats and floating gardens.

Discover the vale and mountains of Kashmir in an economical way. Begin in Srinagar by taking a Shikara ride in the Dal Lake, include a visit to the Mughal Gardens, and spend night in a reasonably priced houseboat or lodge.
