Spiti Bike Trip, Its Challenges and Insights

Spiti Bike Trip Journey

Introduction

A Spiti bike trip is more than riding on beautiful roads around the geography; it is a thrilling experience of riding through the mighty Himalayas, pointing to the intriguing Spiti valley in Himachal Pradesh, India. This adventure is perfect for adrenaline junkies or people who want to experience something out of the ordinary and come face to face with challenging terrains on two wheels while being introduced to breathtaking landscapes and meeting people of numerous cultures along the way.

Best Way to Go:

Self-Organized Tour: Self-guided bike tours also have the advantage of being able to choose which roads and which places to visit on the way, how many times to get off the bikes and how long to spend at any one place.

Guided Tour: Having someone from a recognized adventure travel organization can mean having logistical backup, experienced leadership in terms of routes and safety and more often, it will encompass some form of transportation, meals and accommodation. This is useful if you don’t know the place yet or if you prefer having a set plan on what your next move is.

Solo vs. Group: Both come with their benefits , traveling alone as a single traveler lets you be more independent and spontaneous, traveling in a group can be comforting and you get to share your traveling experience with other people.

Best Time to Go:

June: The roads usually are closed in winter and the ones that are usually open offer some of the best views especially with snow covered peaks and beautiful blooming valleys.

July and August: These months are ideal for tourism because of pleasant climate, clear weather, and convenience in traversing through high passes such as Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass.

September: The weather is fine, but the group becomes smaller than in previous days of the festival. It is still possible to stroll and relax and enjoy the beautiful colors of autumn without getting wet and cold.

Challenges:

Road Accessibility:- Most of these roads may be closed or physically inaccessible by virtue of the snow, and the general road conditions may be very poor, or even sometimes, very dangerous.

Weather Conditions: Winter season in Spiti Valley is very harsh wherein the temperatures can freeze very low below the freezing point. Winter storms include blizzards and snowstorms, which make road conditions worse interfering with movements and are risky to bikers.

Limited Facilities: Since traveling can be challenging during winters, some accommodations, restaurants, food joints, and fuel stations in Spiti Valley and along the route may remain closed or they might be open for limited hours.

Places to visit in Spiti :-

Some famous village at Spiti Valley :

Kaza: Location: Kaza is the largest town and hence the administrative center of Spiti Valley.
